About the Role

We are seeking a Principal, Business Development Manager to serve as a key commercial strategist and retail industry expert focused on accelerating Electric Era’s growth within the enterprise retail segment. In this role, you’ll help shape how major national and global retailers—across grocery, convenience, QSR, and big-box—adopt EV fast charging as part of their customer experience to meet their unique c-level business objectives. You’ll operate as a trusted advisor and partner to our account teams, bringing industry expertise, executive-level relationships, and a strong competency in retail innovation. Your insights and network will help Electric Era navigate complex enterprise organizations, craft compelling partnership approaches, and advance high-value opportunities with greater speed and scale. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and wants to play a pivotal part in scaling critical infrastructure through retail.

What You’ll Do

Retail Expertise & Executive Engagement

  • Leverage your industry knowledge and existing executive relationships to open doors, make introductions, and support active retail pursuits alongside account teams.
  • Guide account strategy with contextual insights on retail decision-making, priorities, and pain points—especially across marketing, loyalty, customer experience, and digital transformation/omnichannel.
  • Act as a trusted advisor internally and externally with retail executives and strategic partners to deliver tailored insights and guide retail investment thesis.

Go-to-Market Enablement

  • Partner with account team units and frontline sales to co-develop tailored go-to-market strategies for enterprise retail prospects and customers.
  • Participate in key meetings, pitch development, and account planning sessions to enhance the clarity and relevance of Electric Era’s commercial approach.
  • Design and structure partnership models that align with the retailer goals and c-level objectives.

Technology & Digital Retail Strategy

  • Serve as an internal expert on retail systems and technologies—including loyalty programs/related integrations, retail media networks, digitalization/omnichannel, personalized marketing, and POS systems.
  • Work cross-functionally with product and marketing teams to shape messaging and capabilities that resonate with the retail enterprise segment.
  • Identify integration opportunities and feature enhancements that support deeper collaboration with retailers’ digital ecosystems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Program Support

  • Become embedded within Revenue Growth Organization as a strategic resource—supporting everything from customer-facing efforts to product design with deep market insights and subject matter knowledge.
  • Partner with marketing to inform product positioning, content, and event strategy and execution.

About You

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in consulting, business development, partnerships, or retail strategy.
  • Deep network of senior decision-makers in grocery, convenience, QSR, or big-box retail industries. (Experience in multiple retail industries preferred.)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence enterprise engagement through executive access, strategic insight, and industry credibility.

Skills & Competencies

  • Expert understanding of retail commercials and P&L, with ability to model solutions sold in the context of retail P&L impact.
  • Expertise in retail technologies and commercial models, including loyalty programs/related integrations, retail media networks, digitalization and omnichannel, personalized marketing, and POS systems.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to frame and position complex solutions to varied audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to turn industry insight and ambiguity into clear, actionable paths that accelerate deal flow, unlock enterprise partnerships, and drive commercial expansion.
