Job Summary

SCORE’s Policy Analyst will play a critical role on SCORE’s Policy and Government Relations team by supporting the development and advancement of the organization’s policy agenda across K-12 and postsecondary education. This role is responsible for reviewing research, analyzing legislation, utilizing data, conducting national policy scans, and monitoring Tennessee’s education policy landscape. The work of the Policy Analyst will include concise, compelling writing that synthesizes complex information for a variety of policy audiences and will inform bill proposals, amendments, policy recommendations, partner communications, and advocacy strategies. This role requires collaboration with internal and external partners to develop public products that describe Tennessee’s policy landscape and offer recommendations for improvement. The Policy Analyst will report to SCORE’s Senior Director of Policy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and make recommendations on K-12 through higher education-related policy and legislation in Tennessee.
  • Identify advocacy opportunities to advance student achievement and close opportunity gaps in Tennessee.
  • Produce public-facing deliverables (memos, slide decks, blog posts, etc.) to advance SCORE’s policy priorities.
  • Synthesize information on complex topics for a range of audiences including legislators, state officials, and institution leaders.
  • Identify emerging best practices and track national policy shifts.
  • Conduct data analysis and research on education policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with SCORE team members to generate policy analysis and advance SCORE’s policy priorities.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience working in K-12 and/or higher education policy, with a preference for candidates familiar with Tennessee’s policy landscape

• Ability to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills to complex policy issues

• Strong attention to detail

• Clear and concise communicator, both verbally and in writing, with an ability to produce research, policy analysis, and persuasive advocacy materials for a range of audiences

• Organized and able to work collaboratively in fast-paced environments with high expectations

• Project management experience

• Policy and data analysis skills

• Willingness to receive and apply feedback
