Job Description

DESCRIPTION

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensures our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Within AIS and Data Center Engineering, the Mechanical Products and Services team is driving rapid innovation in mechanical cooling and controls systems used by AWS. Our designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. Our engineers solve challenging technology problems and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry. This role provides the opportunity to lead and manage the innovative team of mechanical engineering builders developing and deploying the next generation of liquid cooling infrastructure for our data centers.

AWS is seeking an Engineering Manager for our team developing new infrastructure solutions that enable at-scale deployment of the latest liquid-cooled racks into our data centers. We are looking for a manager with excellent people skills and prior liquid cooling product development experience. This role will work closely with both AWS builders and third-party manufacturers to develop infrastructure solutions on our behalf.

If you have experience leading product design of mechanical products, have an extensive understanding of liquid cooling solutions in data centers, and know how products should be manufactured to ensure quality, you may be a good fit. This role requires the ability to lead a team in developing detailed mechanical equipment specifications and evaluating the merit and risks of design changes.

As Amazon has a global presence, intermittent travel will be necessary and should be expected to be approximately 30% to AWS offices, data centers, suppliers, vendors, and product validation tests. While most travel will be domestic, some international travel may be required.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead innovative, high-performance teams of technical associates under challenging timelines
- Demonstrate strong engineering judgment and ability to provide recommendations despite uncertainty
- Apply data-driven and detail-oriented approaches to problem-solving
- Utilize extensive experience and knowledge in mechanical engineering, product development, and liquid cooling technology
- Collaborate with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers on new technology development and initiatives
- Build trust and develop relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance)
- Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographic zones
- Communicate complex systems in clear and concise language
- Support operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review for both mechanical and electrical issues
- Incorporate customer feedback to improve product reliability and availability
- Contribute to our global knowledge base and drive continuous improvement at scale

If you meet these qualifications, exude passion, and enjoy the challenge of innovative projects at hyper-scale, this job is for you!
