Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced
Controller to assess the financial operations of our HVAC business. This role is responsible for managing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support business growth and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting - Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support decision-making.
- Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to HVAC industry regulations.
- Provide financial insights to guide strategic planning and business growth.
- Lead close each month and ensure accurate and timely financial information.
Operational Oversight - Direct daily accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger.
- Track job costing and project profitability for service and installation work.
- Partner with operations to align financial reporting with performance metrics.
- Support project managers with timely, accurate financial data for active jobs.
Controls & Compliance - Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Monitor compliance with company policies and financial procedures.
- Stay current on state and federal tax requirements affecting the business.
- Identify and address risk areas to strengthen financial governance.
Team Leadership & Development - Mentor and develop accounting staff to enhance skills and efficiency.
- Set performance expectations and conduct regular feedback sessions.
- Foster a collaborative, results-driven work environment.
Technology & Process Improvement - Leverage accounting software and ERP systems to streamline processes.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve accounting workflows.
- Ensure data accuracy and system integrity across all financial platforms.
- Promote adoption of technology solutions to increase department efficiency.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Prior experience in the HVAC, construction, or service industry strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of job costing, inventory management, and revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in accounting software: Netsuite and Buildops
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of state and federal tax regulations affecting HVAC businesses.
- Experience in high-growth environments with complex reporting requirements.
- Proven track record in change management and project leadership.
- Expertise in close management software, best practices, and meeting close deadlines.
