POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Bureau of Benefits is seeking to hire an Administrative Assistant I for the Group Insurance Division. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience reviewing website content and background creating benefits related materials for both internal and external customers. This position offers the opportunity to assist and provide support to our state employees and retirees on employee benefit programs and procedures, and other CMS administered programs within the Group Insurance Division. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under general direction of the Group Insurance Division Manager and with the assistance of the Illinois Office of Communication and Information (IOCI), proofs and coordinates the printing of annual open enrollment books and materials.

  • Creates and updates Group Insurance program member communications and forms.
  • Develops and maintains ongoing communications with contract administrators to obtain the information required to annually update all benefit choice information for SEGIP, CIP, LGHP and TRIP programs.

  • Researches and provides input to management to be used in the planning, developing, implementing, conducting, and analyzing studies of program performance and evaluation to determine statewide training needs.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers three (3) years of professional experience utilizing computer applications with a strong focus on Microsoft applications and Adobe applications. 
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience with various employer group benefit programs, rules, and regulations.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience drafting written technical materials in a clear, concise, accurate, and understandable context.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience utilizing presentation skills, training skills and strong analytical skills in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of presentations and trainings.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience interpreting and communicating departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience working independently on assigned job tasks. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver’s license.
